Providence Health Care (PHC) is a leading teaching and research organization and the provincial referral centre for Cardiac, HIV/AIDS and Renal Care. We are known for our centres of excellence and recognized for a number of specialty programs and services across the continuum of care from acute to elder care. Our seven sites include a large, downtown tertiary hospital, a smaller community hospital and five residential care facilities.

Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, you provide communications plans in all aspects of internal and external communications, and ensure that all organizational communication initiatives support the mission, visions, values and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, as well as strengthen our relationships with the communities that we serve.

A self-starter, you have strong writing, verbal, critical and strategic communications skills, experience in event planning and media relations and are an effective multi-tasker. You thrive in an environment where a consultative and collaborative approach with designated clients is valued.

You ideally have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or a related discipline supplemented with a minimum of three to five years’ experience in organizational communications.

NS Gaming is Hiring

There’s a potential job opening here at the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation and we wanted to forward it along to you in case you know someone who may fit the bill and is currently looking for employment. The job is a one-year contract position (with a three-month probationary period) in the prevention programming and public affairs department. We are looking for someone who has strong writing skills, is an extraordinary time manager, detailed-oriented, quick learner, and able to handle many competing demands under pressure. An ideal candidate would have prior experience in issues management, media relations and corporate communications. Experience in event management would also be an asset. This would be a mid-level (i.e. not entry) position and would report to the Manager, Communications. Corporate Communications Specialist
Regular Full-time

Reporting to the Corporate Director, Internal Communications, you will take your place on a high performance Internal Communications team. Specifically, you will provide communication advice and services for the PHSA in collaboration with agency-based communicators and in support of our mission and strategy. Focusing on communications support within a changing environment, you will write, edit and produce diverse communications such as web-based media, internal briefs, newsletters, brochures, displays, speeches and presentations. In collaboration with the internal communications team, you will formulate and work from a coordinated plan of action with attention to overall quality, consistency and effectiveness of complex communication materials. This role works with highly confidential information in advance of events that may significantly and substantially impact staff and clients of the PHSA, so a commitment to confidentiality and integrity of all materials is expected.

You hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, combined with at least five years of experience in a related communications role. Your superior journalistic business writing ability is complemented by your skill in creating compelling employee communications that align with corporate goals and objectives. You thrive in a role that demands expertise in implementation and evaluation of operational and strategic communication in a changing environment, and you can work with the tact and diplomacy that is essential when working with information that may be sensitive. It will be your solid relationship-building skills and focus on measurable outcomes and performance that identify you as our ideal candidate for this role.
